The Zara fashion chain appears to be undeterred by the recession and H&M's impending introduction
into the Israeli market. The Spanish company recently inaugurated its 19th store in Israel
at the new G shopping center in the city of Kfar Saba, at a total investment of about NIS 10 million (about $2.57 million).
The new store measures 1,200 square meters (12,916 square feet) in size and spreads over one floor. It has women's, men's and children's departments.
Zara has signed a 10-year lease contract at the mall, with the option of extending it for 10 additional years.
The chain plans to open four more stores in Israel, following the opening of a branch in Nazareth Illit's Big Fashion mall. According to CEO Eli Keidar, the Zara Israel Group seeks to increase its sales turnover by some 25%,
Zara's first branch was opened in Tel Aviv's Ramat Aviv Mall in 1997. Some 1,000 people are employed by the Zara Israel chain, which has stores in Ramat Gan, Eilat, Beersheba, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Holon, Jerusalem, Petah Tikva, Rehovot, Ashdod, Raanana, Givatayim, Modiin, Nazareth and Kfar Saba.
