The Haifa-based chain Greg Café is to open 11 new branches in the next three months, at an investment of about NIS 15 million (about $4 million). The first branches are due to open within the next few days at Rishon Lezion's Zahav Mall, Haifa's Grand Mall and the Lev Hadera Mall, in partnership with the Tzomet Sfarim chain of bookstores.
Eight more branches are due to open by the end of March 2010, in Tel Aviv's Gan Ha'ir Mall, Carmiel's Big Center and the Bilu commercial zone in Rehovot. Two further branches will open in the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and in Haifa University in addition to the branches already at these sites.
The chain said that the new branches will cover an average area of about 200 square meters (2,100 square feet) and will include, for the first time, counters for the sale of Greg products for home use. These counters will be installed in all Greg cafes by the end of this year.
Greg Café was founded in 1994 as a local espresso bar by an American of that name in the Carmel Center in Haifa. In 2000, the café was acquired by Yair Malka and Gilad Almog and in 2008 Nir Adari joined the partnership. During the last decade, the chain opened 43 branches around the country.
