Palestinian witnesses say four missiles were fired at structures on the airport grounds and that rescue forces were having trouble evacuating victims due to IAF activity in the area.
The sources add that a number of tunnels used to smuggle weapons into Gaza near Rafah and the border with Israel were also hit in the air strike.
Earlier Friday a Qassam rocket launched from the northern part of the Hamas-ruled territory landed in an open area near a kibbutz within the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council's limits. There were no reports of injury or damage.
The rocket was the fourth that was fired towards Israel in the past two days after a period of relative calm.
Thursday's Qassam attack killed a foreign worker in Netiv Ha'asara.
IDF aircraft bombed six targets in Gaza late Thursday in retaliation for the deadly rocket attack.
The Palestinians reported that two people were lightly injured in the strikes, whose targets included a smuggling tunnel along the border with Egypt, two open areas in Khan Younis and a metal foundry near Gaza City.
