Representatives from 23 British companies from the life sciences sector attended the Biomed 2010 conference in Israel.
Richard Salt, director for UK trade and investment at the British Embassy in Tel Aviv, hosted a festive dinner for the British mission. During their visit to Israel, the UK delegates met with Israeli companies and examined opportunities for co-operation.
The prestigious Biomed conference, which has been held annually for several years, attracts hundreds of leading companies from around the world.

"The UK places a strong emphasis on research and development in the life sciences sector, earmarking substantive budgets for this area," Salt said. "Israel displays a remarkable ability in life science and I hope that following this UK mission we'll see even more cooperation between British and Israeli companies".
The United Kingdom is a world leader in the life sciences sector, with over 3,500 medical technology and biotechnology companies, generating a turnover of £15 billion in 2008. This combined with pharmaceutical exports of £18 billion (about $26 billion) means that the UK is a major supplier of life sciences products and services across the globe.
