US National Archives to house Nuremberg papers

Legal documents signed by Hitler, granting Nazis authority to execute Jews, handed to LA library

Documents signed by Adolf Hitler that created the legal framework granting the Nazis the authority to eventually carry out the execution of 6 million Jews are being given to the US National Archives.

A news conference announcing the transfer of the Nuremberg Laws is scheduled for Wednesday morning at The Huntington Library in the Los Angeles suburb of San Marino.

The sprawling library, museum and botanical gardens has had charge of the papers since Gen. George Patton deposited them there in 1945.

Patton grew up next door to the Huntington and his father once worked for its namesake, industrialist Henry Huntington.

The documents rescinded German citizenship for Jews and forbade them to marry non-Jews, setting the stage for the Holocaust.
