The State Prosecutor's Office is to submit to Haifa District Court a plea bargain reached with the defense council of Amir Makhoul, accused of espionage. As part of the plea bargain, paragraphs in the indictment alleging he spied for Hezbollah will be changed, and he will admit to contact with foreign agents.
During questioning, Makhoul admitted to the allegations that he spied and had contact with foreign agents, but during his trial he said the admission had been wrung from him by force. If the plea bargain is approved, the defense is expected to request no more than seven years behind bars while the prosecutor will request ten. (Hagai Einav)
