State funding protection for Yair Netanyahu in NYC
PM's son stays in US for private vacation after parents return to Israel from official visit, says on Facebook page, 'I dined with Hugh Jackman'
A bodyguard has been assigned to IDF soldier Yair Netanyahu during his vacation in New York, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Thursday.
The soldier accompanied his parents, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sarah on their official visit to the US with the authorization of his commanders at the IDF Spokesperson's Unit. He is expected to return to Israel later in the day.
The Netanyahu family is paying for Yair's flight and lodging expenses, but his protection is being funded by the State.
The prime minister and his wife returned to Israel on Friday, but Yair decided to stay in New York for a few more days. Yair wrote on his Facebook page, "I had a tasty meal with actor Hugh Jackman."
The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said, "Corporal Yair Netanyahu is on a private vacation abroad after receiving the necessary authorization."
The Prime Minister's Office said, "Yair Netanyau flew with the prime minister to the US and stayed a few days longer for an authorized private vacation. The trip is being paid by the Netanyahu family in full. The protection issue is being handled by the security establishment."
