Israeli Pride. Scene from 'Kalevet'
Aharon Keshlers and Navot Papushado’s first movie, "Rabies" ("Kalevet"), has been accepted to the Fantasporto horror and fantasy film festival, which will be held this year for the 31st time at the end of February in the city of Porto in Portugal.
"Rabies" will be competing against 15 horror and fantasy films from around the world – all chosen out of hundreds of movies. Among the nominees are leading directors such as Frenchman Luc Besson, with his movie "Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc," Vincenzo Natali with "Splice," Julie Taymor and her adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and leading actors in the cinematic horror and fantasy genre like Korean Ji-woon Kim from "A Tale of Two Sisters," who is competing with his movie "I Saw the Devil."
Keshlers and Papushado said they felt honored in light of the fact that one of the judges is Joe Dante, who directed "Gremlins."
"To be included in a list together with the director of movies like "Nikita," "Leon" and "The Fifth Element," the director of "Titus," the director of "Cube" and the director of "A Tale of two Sisters" – is an award in itself.
"To be judged by Dante, that's already like being in heaven, or hell, depending on your preference."
