Mohamed Abu Zabarg, a 22-year-old resident of the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, was indicted at the Tel Aviv District Court on Tuesday for seducing a 12-year-old girl through Facebook and raping her.
According to the charge sheet, Abu Zabarg pretended to be a Jewish 19-year-old named Amir. He allegedly sexually assaulted the girl on several occasions in his car and in hotel rooms.
The State Prosecutor's Office requested the court to extend Abu Zabarg's arrest until the legal proceedings are over, claiming he poses a danger to the public. According to prosecution officials, Abu Zabarg, who has a violent past, is also suspected of an attempt to seduce another girl, a 14 year old, in a similar manner.
Earlier this month a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man were indicted for raping a 12-year-old girl that they met through Facebook. Ynet found out that 15 other teenagers from central Israel were investigated after social services reported the rape to police. The youths admitted to having intercourse with the girl, and claimed that she said that she was 17.
The 17-year-old boy's mother disconnected her home from the Internet following the incident, saying that the web is the root of the problem. "I decided to disconnect the computer at home, because what happens on the Internet and on Facebook is Sodom and Gommorah," she said. "The youth is exposed to harsh content there."
