IDF kills Palestinian in north Gaza

For second time on Sunday, Israeli army strikes in Hamas-ruled territory; this time, Palestinians say, man killed 'while collecting gravel'; IDF: He approached border fence

Sources in Gaza said a Palestinian man was killed in an attack launched by the IDF Monday afternoon.

According to the sources, Amar Ma'aruf, 30, was collecting gravel at the site of the former Jewish settlement of Dugit when he was shot dead.

Medical officials said wounds found on the man's body indicated that he was shot with an automatic rifle. His body was transported to Gaza City's Shifa Hospital.

The IDF confirmed the report, saying forces opened fire on a Palestinian who approached the security fence separating Israel from the Hamas-ruled territory.

Earlier Sunday, at least one Palestinian was injured when IDF artillery fire targeted a terror cell near the defunct airport located east of Rafah. The army said the cell had launched terror attacks against Israeli targets in the past, but the Palestinians said one of those injured in the strike was a construction worker who was collecting gravel.

On Sunday night Palestinians in Gaza said an Islamic Jihad gunman was killed in an IDF strike east of Gaza City's Zaitun neighborhood. The army denied launching an attack in the area.
