Rita in 'Ben is Back'
Israeli singer Rita has won the Jury Special Recognition for Acting award at the San Francisco International Festival of Short Films.
Rita received the prize on Monday for her leading role in Elad Zakai's film, "Ben is Back." She played the role of a mother trying to save her family from the growing insanity of her eldest son.
This isn't Rita's first acting role. More than 20 years ago she took part in the Israeli film "Elef Neshotav Shel Naftali Siman-Tov" (the 1,000 wives of Naftali Siman-Tov), and throughout her career she has starred in adaptations of various musicals like "My Fair Lady" and "Chicago".
Rita received the surprising news about the award from director Elad Zakai. "I came to Elad's film because I was enchanted by the role," she said Monday. "Winning is a big surprise. I wasn't aware of the fact that the film was included in the festival and I'm very excited."
"Ben is Back" also won the Gold Jury Award and the Audience Award.
Director Elad Zakai said Monday, "It's amazing how people all around the world recognize Rita's special qualities. I think she deserves it because she played a fantastic role. The awards given to the movie are a huge compliment to me and to the people I worked with."
