Rabbi David Wolpe
Newsweek Magazine has named Rabbi David Wolpe, who heads the Los Angeles' Sinai Temple, the most influential rabbi in the United States.
Wolpe, a popular author and public speaker, who heads the largest Conservative synagogue west of the Mississippi, was runner up in the magazine's list in 2011.

The third and fourth spots on the list named two Reform rabbis: Rabbi Peter Rubinstein of New York City’s historic Central Synagogue, and Rabbi David Saperstein, head of the Reform movement's Religious Action Center. Saperstein topped the list back in 2009.
Rounding up Newsweek's top five was Conservative Rabbi Sharon Brous, who heads of the IKAR community in Los Angeles.
The magazine's criteria to determine who the top 50 rabbis in the United States are include "their impact on Judaism and beyond the Jewish community; the size of their constituencies; their social/political influence; and their media presence."
