Celebrated Israeli director Joseph Cedar is among 176 artists and executives who have been invited to join The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Famous for such critically acclaimed films as "Footnote", "Beaufort" and "Campfire", Cedar has been nominated for the Academy Award twice, most recently with "Footnote." He lost the Oscar to Iran's "A Separation."
The members who accept the membership will be invited to an exclusive reception in September.
In May 2011, Cedar won the best screenplay prize in Cannes for "Footnote" which tells the story of a rivalry between a father-son pair of Talmudic scholars.
