Korzits edging toward Olympic medal?

Israeli windsurfer improves overall ranking to second place after winning eighth race

LONDON – Israeli windsurfer Lee Korzits improved her overall ranking from the third to the second place, after finishing first in the eighth race of the women's RS-X event at the London Games.

Korsitz finished the race with a time of 25:39.

The three time world champion from Michmoret finished the 7th race in second place, trailing after Ukrainian Olha Maslivets by only 11 seconds.

The medal race is to take place on Tuesday, after 10 preliminary races are completed.

The overall scores after the eighth race places Spanish windsurfer Marina Alabau Neira in first place, followed by Korzits and Polish Zofia Noceti-Klepacka in third place.

Speaking to Ynet after the race, Korzits said "It was fun and I am very happy with the results of the day. I am now only three points away from the Spanish windsurfer.

"Alabau is an excellent windsurfer, but both of us can't discard our worst races anymore because we have already done so, and therefore the one who wins tomorrow will go to the finals on Tuesday with an advantage," she said.

On Friday, Israeli sailing duo Vered Buskila and Gil Cohen were disqualified from their second race in the women's 470 event, after the Danish team filed an appeal against them.

Buskila and Cohen finished the second race in sixth place, which brought their overall ranking to third place. However, after the race they were informed that the Danish team's appeal was accepted, and the Israeli duo plummeted to the last spot in the race.
