Shortly prior to the assassination, the Hamas military chief was documented during a secret visit to Saudi Arabia, as part of the Muslim pilgrimage custom known as Hajj, in late October.

Jabari is featured in the short clip as he is praying, asking Allah to take revenge on Jews and Americans. "Allah, bring victory to those supporting this religion and inflict defeat on those who have abandoned this religion," Jabari is recorded saying, asking Allah to "take revenge on the Jews and take revenge on the Americans."
A few days after Jabari's death, his widow Umm Mohammed said that the three most important things to him – to maintain a strong military, to resolve the issue of Palestinian prisoners in Israel and to practice the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca – were realized.
Jabari's widow added that upon his return from Mecca, her husband brought presents to all his friends and neighbors, as if he knew these would be the last souvenirs they would have of him.
"I went down to the market with him and saw how he wanted to give gifts to each acquaintance and relative. He didn’t forget a single one," she recalled.
Jabari was assassinated on November 14 in the Gaza Strip. Immediately following the assassination, the IDF struck terror hubs as part of Operation Pillar of Defense, which lasted eight days.
