Amona evacuation in photos
Years of legal and political battles drew to their conclusion as hundreds of police entered the illegal outpost to evacuate its residents in Operation Locked Garden.
Operation Locked Garden—the evacuation of the illegal Amona outpost—was completed on Thursday, with more than 100 youths clashing with police and injuring 17 of them.
Friday, unarmed forces came face to face with hundreds of residents and protestors. Some of them barricaded themselves in their homes and the town's synagogue and ritual bath. Others left their homes when the security forces arrived.
Youths lay roadblocks at the entrance to Amona and on the main paths to render the evacuation more difficult. They also lit several tire fires. Police faced violent opposition from many of the youths who flung furniture, pieces of wood, glass bottles, buckets of paint and oil and even caustic substances.
