Halamish terrorist initially planned to use suicide belt, firearm for larger attack
Omar al-Abed charged with the murder of Yosef, Haya and Elad Salomon and the attempted murder of Tova Salomon, as well as Elad's wife Michal and their five children; according to the indictment, he managed to get through 4 different fences before reaching his victims' home.
In addition to the murder of Yosef, 70, Haya, 46, and Elad, 35, al-Abed was charged with the attempted murder of Tova, Michal and Michal and Elad's five children, as well as conspiring to commit a crime and additional offences.
According to the indictment, Al-Abed decided to carry out the attack on July 14 after three Israeli Arab terrorists killed two Israeli police officers in a shooting attack on the Temple Mount.
On July 18, he told a Gaza woman with whom he was in contact on Whataspp about his intentions to carry out a stabbing attack. Among other things, he wrote to her that "We must wage jihad for the Al-Aqsa Mosque."
He also gave her the login details for his Facebook account, asking her to post his last will and testament on his page on July 20 at 8:20pm.
The woman tried to talk him out of carrying out the attack, but he insisted he wanted to die as a martyr for the al-Aqsa Mosque. He later told other Gazans about his intentions.
On Friday July 21, the terrorist packed a 22-centimeters-long knife, which he took from his father's store the day before, in his backpack, along with scissors that can cut through fences and a Quran.
When he arrived in Halamish, he stopped outside the settlement to pray and read from the Quran, while his Gazan friend posted his will on his Facebook page.
He managed to crawl under the settlement's first fence and cut through an additional fence with his scissors. He got over a third fence by climbing a nearby tree. After crossing the road that goes around the settlement, he reached a fourth, electric fence, which he jumped over by climbing a nearby tree.
When he entered the Salomon home, Michal Salomon noticed him and quickly rushed her children upstairs to hide in the second floor bedroom.
The terrorist encountered Haya Salomon first and asked her "What about al-Aqsa?" He then stabbed her, pushing the blade deep into her chest.
Tova Salomon, Haya's mother, started shouting at the terrorist to leave her home and ducked to the floor. The terrorist stabbed Tova in the back, and she started shouting "Terrorist" and fled to the second floor.
The terrorist then moved further inside the house, where he encountered Yosef Salomon and stabbed him in the stomach.
Elad Salomon, Yosef and Tova's son, tackled the terrorist and tried to disarm him of the knife. The terrorist stabbed Elad three times, but Elad was still able to snatch the knife from al-Abed and defend himself. The terrorist then grabbed onto Elad's arm and kicked him in the back, making Elad fall to his knees.
The terrorist then stepped on the hand Elad was holding the knife with, took a cutting board and hit his victim in the head twice until the board broke. The terrorist then took a knife that was next to the cutting board and stabbed Elad twice more with it.
This led Elad to drop the terrorist's original weapon, which al-Abed then picked up, using it to stab Elad 12 more times in different places in his body, until his victim stopped moving.
Al-Abed then returned to Yosef Salomon, noticed he was still breathing despite being seriously wounded, and stabbed him 15 more times in different places in his body until he too stopped moving.
A.M., a soldier on leave who lives near the Salomon home, heard the screams, got his weapon, and shot and neutralized the terrorist.
