Bereaved mother: 'terrorists don't deserve burial'
After the state revealed that it buried 4 terrorists in secret in the Jordan Valley enemy combatants cemetery, Rina Ariel, the mother of 13-year-old Hallel Ariel, who was murdered last year in her sleep by one of them, expresses her rancor: 'I don't think the terrorists deserve it.'
Rina Ariel, the mother of 13-year-old Hallel Ariel, who was murdered last year in her sleep, discovered Wednesday that her daughter's murderer, Mohammed Taraireh, was among the four terrorists buried in secret in the cemetery for enemy combatants in the Jordan Valley.
"Burial is important, it's a respectful thing, we invest a great deal in the matter of burial, and I think that terrorists do not deserve it," Ariel commented. "Maybe we could reduce terrorism if they knew we did not respect bodies like that," she said. "This is really just a cemetery for people who are actually inhuman animals."
"We have to do everything to make the murder not pay off," she added. "Just on Wednesday, there was an attempted (terror) attack at an event a few meters from my house, and thank God, nothing happened. Once again a terrorist was neutralized. But terrorism continues every day. And anything that can help eradicate this phenomenon is a tremendous struggle. And as long as we do not do it, we lose. "
According to Ariel, it is possible that a different attitude towards the bodies of the terrorists may affect their motivation to carry out attacks, saying that alone it won't do much, but added together to other forms of deterrence would significantly reduce motivation to carry out attacks.
"The destruction terrorists' homes, expulsion, the cessation of compensation… together with the issue of burial might make them less motivated," she noted. "It is a matter of honorable burial, and this is a burial which Islam apparently sees fit. I'm not familiar with the rules, but other solutions must be found.
"I do not have a solution at the moment. This is new to me as it is to everyone. We heard about it just like everyone else. I'm still trying to digest."
It was revealed during a High Court discussion on Wednesday that Israel had buried the bodies of four West Bank terrorists who carried out attacks against Israeli targets in the enemy combatant cemetery near Damia Bridge in the Jordan Valley.
The four terrorists were buried some three months ago. Neither their families nor the attorneys representing them in Israeli courts were made aware of this fact until Wednesday's discussion.
