Haredim in Uman
An Israeli Haredi citizen was stabbed in his chest Monday during an altercation that broke out between Hasidic Jews in the Ukrainian city of Uman.
The victim was said to be in serious condition and a medical helicopter is expected to fly the currently hospitalized 42-year-old Israeli back to Israel overnight.
The suspect who carried out the stabbing is believed to also be an Israeli and was arrested by the state authorities.
After the Hasid was rushed to the hospital in the city, local police launched a criminal investigation into the attack and arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of intentionally causing serious bodily harm, a crime which carries a maximum sentence in Ukraine of up to eight years in prison.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed that it had obtained information from the consulate in Ukraine about an Israeli who had been hospitalized in central Uman after being stabbed.
