Infant shot in leg during attempted Qalansawe hit
Infant, aged 18 months, shot in leg during attempted hit on relative, who was holding him, in Qalansawe; baby was taken to Meir Hospital while the shooter has not yet been identified; shooting is another in long line of recent Qalansawe gun crime; 'Not a day goes by without shootings,' says Qalansawe resident.
Video footage of the incident showed a man disembarking a vehicle and then chasing and shooting at a man—as he was attempting to flee—holding an infant.
The infant suffered a leg wound and was taken for treatment at the Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba. Police are investigating the incident.
"A masked man came up to me. I asked him not to shoot, but he did and hit the child. I fled the scene. If I hadn't, it would have ended in disaster," the man holding the infant at the time of the shooting said.
"The child came into the station with his father and other relatives suffering from a leg wound. We provided him with medical attention and immediately removed him to the Meir Hospital's pediatric intensive care ward," said director of the local Qalansawe Magen David Adom station Ahmad Abu Shah.
Several such shooting incidents took place in the Arab city over the past few days. In one, two men suffered minor and moderate wounds, while in another two businesses were shot at.
"The situation is grave. It's dangerous to sit even in buildings' yards because you could be hit by errant gunfire at any moment. There's not a day that goes by without shooting incidents. My son is afraid to go to school," said a resident of the city.
