Senior gov't company officials questioned on alleged bribes
Five senior governmental company officials, including CEO and marketing director, detained for questioning along with external suppliers on suspicion of receiving bribes to push through appointments and tenders within their company; 'Police is honing in on financial crime, corruption in gov't companies and will bring offenders to justice,' says police representative.
The police's Lahav 433 unit detained for questioning five senior officials of a governmental company Tuesday morning, including the company's CEO and marketing director as well as external suppliers, on suspicion of promoting appointments and tenders within the company in exchange for bribes.
Investigators from the police's National Financial Investigations Unit detained the suspects after concluding a covert investigation and searched their homes and offices in order to seize documents and computers linking them to the alleged offenses.
Should the investigation warrant it, the suspects will be remanded before the Rishon Lezion Magistrates' Court.
"The Israel Police is honing in on financial crimes and corruption in governmental companies and will bring offenders to justice," a police statement said.
"The police will continue to investigate and expose illicit processes such as promoting tenders and appointments for cronies in exchange for bribes and will continue to strike at the heart of corruption wherever it appears in governmental companies, finally clearing them of any wrongdoing accruing great expense for the law-abiding taxpayer," the statement concluded.
