US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Thursday that Syria's future would be without Bashar al-Assad's leadership, and that he should step down as president in the UN-led peace process.
"We do not think there is a future for the Assad regime and the Assad family," he said. "I think I said it on several occasions, the reign of the Assad family is coming to an end, the only question is how this will come about," he added.
Rex Tillerson was speaking to reporters during a visit to Geneva, where he met UN envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, who himself announced on Thursday that a new round of talks on Syria will be held starting November 28.
