Ahed Tamimi

Second attacker arrested in connection with Nabi Salih incident

Nur Tamimi, who was filmed along with her cousin Ahed Tamimi slapping and hitting an IDF soldier and officer, trying and failing to provoke a reaction out of them, arrested early Wednesday.

Nur Tamimi was arrested by the IDF early Wednesday on suspicion of being involved in the attack on an IDF officer and soldier along with her cousin Ahed Tamimi in the West Bank village of Nabi Salih.

The 21-year-old Nur was documented along with her 17-year-old cousin Ahed slapping and hitting IDF soldiers, but failing to provoke a response from them.

Ahed Tamimi was arrested early Tuesday and taken for questioning by police. Border Policewomen who came to arrest her had to use moderate physical force against her after she physically resisted arrest and threatened to hit the soldiers.

A video of the incident, taken during a weekly demonstration held in the village this past Friday, showed soldiers displaying restraint in the face of slaps, pushes and kicks by the two cousins, who attempted to entrap them to respond.

Bassem Tamimi, Ahed's father told Ynet that, "The occupation forces from the police and Border Police acted cruelly and used violence. They searched the house and caused damages, confiscated our computers, cellphones, cameras and every electronic device. They beat the children after taking their cellphones by force."

He went on to claim that "This arrest was done after incitement in the media, which aroused public interest among the Israeli society. I saw in the Israeli media calls to protest against Ahed on the streets of Tel Aviv, after they tried to portray the soldier as a poor victim of Ahed's actions."

In addition to Nur Tamimi, IDF, Shin Bet, Border Police and police forces also arrested 17 wanted suspects across the West Bank overnight.

Palestinians also violently clashed with Israeli forces securing the entry of hundreds of Jewish worshipers into Joseph's Tomb in Nablus. Palestinian rioters burned tires and hurled stones at the forces, who used crowd dispersal measures.
