The Iron Dome missile defense system was activated in the Golan Heights on Thursday afternoon, as was the rocket-alert siren, in what the IDF said was a false alarm.
Around 5:10pm, a rocket-alert siren was sounded in four communities in the northern Golan Heights, sending residents to bomb shelters and safe rooms.
A message by the Golan Regional Council told its residents said an unidentified object that infiltrated Israel was intercepted by the Iron Dome, but the IDF dismissed that report as false, stressing no foreign aircraft infiltrated Israel.
The IDF said it would investigate why the Iron Dome was needlessly activated.
"There are no falls in the Golan area. The Iron Dome system was activated," according the Golan Regional Council's message.
Residents in the area said they heard and saw an explosion in the Golan sky immediately after the rocket-alert siren was sounded.
Tensions are high along the northern frontier. On May 10, Iranian forces in Syria fired rockets Israel, which were intercepted by Iron Dome.
Israel then launched its most intensive air strikes into Syria since the start of the Syrian civil war, targeting Iran's military infrastructure in Syria.
