Netanyahu heads to Europe to discuss 'Iran and Iran'

Speaking before departing to Berlin, from where he will fly to France and the UK to meet European leaders, Netanyahu reiterates importance of ratcheting up pressure on Iran against its nuclear program, expresses hope that disagreements with European allies will be bridged ‘with time.’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departed Monday morning for Europe where he will discuss 'Iran and Iran" and attempt to convince the leaders of France, the UK and Germany of the need to intensify pressure on Iranian to thwart its nuclear ambitions and brief them on the latest threats posed by Tehran in the region.

“I will meet with three leaders and I will raise two subjects: Iran and Iran,” the prime minister said before ascending the plane, accompanied by his wife Sara Netanyahu.

The prime minister will first fly to Berlin to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel, before flying to Paris to meet with President Emmanuel Macron and then to London to meet with Prime Minister Theresa May.

“It is necessary to continue the pressure on Iran against its nuclear program and I think we need to intensify it. It may be that there is not as yet an agreement on the matter, but with time an understanding will be built,” he said.

“The second subject will be about halting Iran’s aggression in the region and especially its attempts to entrench itself in Syria and attack us from there. On this issue I hope to formulate an agreed-upon policy,” the prime minister continued.

“This is a meeting with three extremely important leaders in Europe. It is a good thing that I have a very close personal relation with them. It is extremely important for the State of Israel,” Netanyahu added, also highlighting that he would be participating in celebrations in France marking 70 years of relations between the two respective countries “in many fields.”

The UK’s The Times newspaper reported Monday morning that it had read some of the documents that Israel shared with Downing Street from the nuclear archive seized by the Mossad.

The documents were then transferred to European allies, according to The Times. One of the documents includes a memorandum that shows that responsibility for the production of nuclear weapons was formally transferred to the Iranian Ministry of Defense.

Last month, Netanyahu revealed what he said was “conclusive proof” of a secret project underway in Iran for the development of a nuclear weapon—evidence that he said proved that Tehran had lied “big time” to the international community.
