According to the IDF, the man hurled a stone which hit a soldier in the head.
“The stone was thrown during a riot that included more than 10 Palestinians, who threw stones at an IDF force,” the army said in a statement. “The force responded with crowd-dispersal means. The Palestinian approached the force from a side position and hurled a rock that struck one of the soldiers in the head. The soldier then returned fire, wounding the Palestinian, who was treated by the IDF force. He was proclaimed dead later on. There were no injuries among the force. The incident is being investigated.”
The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the dead Palestinian as 21-year-old Izzideen Tamimi of Nabi Salih.
A documentation from the scene of the incident shows Tamimi before being proclaimed dead and what appears to be the firing of stun grenades. Palestinians are heard shouting at the soldiers in the background.
The incident comes shortly after Staff Sergeant Ronen Lubarsky was killed in similar circumstances by a block that crushed his head during operational activity at the al-Am’ari refugee camp in Ramallah.
On Wednesday, the IDF detained for questioning a number of Palestinians from the “distant circle” of terrorists from the refugee camp.
