A 25-year-old IDF reservist was seriously injured overnight Monday while on duty in a car accident involving a military vehicle in Kiryat Arba.
The soldier was evacuated to Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem. His family has been notified.
Close to midnight, the security fence next to Nir Yeshiva in Kiryat Arba on the outskirts of Hebron was tampered with. The crew of first responders were immediately called to the scene and made their way there in a vehicle.
For reasons that remain unknown, the vehicle overturned near the entrance of the settlement.
The soldier was evacuated as concerns remained that somebody may have infiltrated the perimeters, necessitating the first responders to remain in the settlement until it eventually transpired that the potential suspect was simply a resident returning from the Cave of the Patriarchs.
According to the hospital, the reservist suffered head injuries which were described as serious. He was taken to hospital after being anesthetized.
Four months ago, three Golani soldiers were killed in a car accident on Highway 6, near the Nitzanei Oz interchange in central Israel, when their jeep collided with a truck whose driver apparently lost control of his vehicle.
Two soldiers were pronounced dead on the spot, while a third succumbed to his wounds the following week. Ten others were wounded.
