The Arabic language Wikipedia site has changed its logo and now appears in the colors of a Palestinian flag. Ablack announcement heads the page that reads "In solidarity with the right of the Palestinian People – no to genocide in Gaza. No to the murder of civilians. No to the targeting of hospitals and schools. No to misinformation and double standards. Stop the war. Spread peace and justice for all."

The group decided to shut down its site on Saturday for 24 hours "in support of the residents of the Gaza Strip and in protest of the continuing attacks, while calling for an end to the war and the spread of peace."
The UK based Qatari owned Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper reported that the temporary closure of the site followed activity by the Arabic language Wikipedia group out of solidarity with Gaza. Mussab Benat, who runs the site told the paper that the logo would remain in the new colors until the end of the war.

He said the decision to temporarily close the site came out of a sense of responsibility for the "just issued of the nation and especially the Palestinian question and as a result of the aggression that is seen in Gaza." In an interview with Arab21 he said he had cooperated with the Basque language Wikipedia group, which had translated 100 articles on Palestine. Wikipedia appears in numerous languages and are operated independently.
