Facebook, which has recently rebranded as Meta, has partnered with an Israeli firm to develop advanced chips for the tech giant’s future virtual reality technology dubbed the “metaverse".
Ynet has learned the R&D company “Inomize” apparently informed its employees of the new partnership on Thursday.
According to Inomize CEO, Ehud Shaked, Meta will pick 100 of the company’s best employees, who will get a chance to work on cutting edge VR and AR technologies in Meta’s “Reality Labs” development center in Tel Aviv.
“It is no secret that the high-tech market in the country, and our field in particular, has reached a boiling point that makes our ability to recruit and retain talent increasingly challenging, so this connection is natural for us at this point in time,” said Shaked.
“We have a golden opportunity here to be at the forefront of technological advancement in the field of chips like no other company."
Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg hailed the metaverse as the next incarnation of the internet, which will allow billions of people to interact, work and create products and content in what he hopes will be a new ecosystem that creates "millions" of jobs for creators.
Dr. Offer Shaham, a senior engineer at Meta's Reality Labs welcomed the initiative and the upcoming collaboration.
“All of us here at Meta, from Mark Zuckerberg to the last of our engineers, see the future in the metaverse. All of us here are building the tools needed to run the next computing platform,” said Shaham.
