U.S.-based retail giant eBay is set to lay off dozens of its employees in Israel, with most of the layoffs taking place in the business and buyer experience departments, Ynet’s sister outlet Calcalist learned on Wednesday.
This is the second round of the company’s layoffs in Israel and the third globally. Estimations say that around 30 employees were laid off during the previous round, while the company employs 200 people in Israel.
The company said in a statement that the changes being implemented in Israel are part of eBay's global business strategy to provide more efficient and tailored responses to its customers. This marks a very unfortunate decision, especially considering the situation in Israel. Nevertheless, the Israeli site continues to be an integral part of eBay's ability to realize its product strategy across the globe.
eBay's research and development center is located in Netanya and its operations began in 2005 with the acquisition of price comparison site shopping.com for approximately $620 million. Several years later, the company also acquired the Israeli present-shopping website Gift Project for an undisclosed amount.
This marks the second wave of reorganization the company is undergoing globally. The first wave took place in February 2024 when 500 employees were laid off worldwide, including several dozen in Israel.
