GPS disruptions are recurring against the backdrop of threats from Iran and its proxies seeking retribution for a series of assassinations of senior Revolutionary Guards members, as reported by foreign sources.
Unlike other instances of GPS jamming in northern and southern Israel, signal disruptions extended his week to the center of the country too, causing significant inconvenience to citizens who normally do not experience such issues. However, residents of the north have begun adapting to this problem, which started years ago due to GPS jamming activities by Russia during the civil war in Syria.
Beyond matching Israelis and Lebanese on dating apps, these disruptions affect a wide range of services we've come to rely on so much that the younger generation is at a loss without them.
The Cyber Directorate has published several recommendations to help navigate this challenge, and we've consulted with an expert to help with places that allow you to identify disruption zones and plan your day accordingly.
Here are the National Cyber Directorate's recommendations for users experiencing disruptions with location-based apps:
1. For navigation - Download maps for offline use on Google Maps: Settings -> When offline -> Offline maps -> Select your map -> Choose the relevant map and save (settings may vary across different phones). Note that there are other apps not based on location, such as maps.me or Sygic, available for both iPhone and Android, offering real-time navigation just like Waze.
2. In food ordering apps - You can enter the desired address in the delivery address field. While not a complete solution to the problem, an efficient delivery person should be able to find your address through familiarity with the area they serve. Still, the best solution might be to simply go to the restaurant and purchase your meal in person - it’s more economical and eco-friendly and the food will taste fresher.
3. For public transport navigation - The issue is slightly more complex, but you can plan your travel route via the official website of the Transportation Ministry or use the public transportation service centers at *8787 or the service centers of the operators.
4. Identifying the areas of location services and GPS disruptions - If you want to understand where the disruptions are occurring and plan your day accordingly, we highly recommend using the website Flightradar. Beyond tracking flights, it also offers a real-time map of GPS disruptions worldwide. While the map is not entirely accurate, it still provides a fairly focused estimate of the areas affected by the disruptions.
