Apple has postponed the release of an enhanced version of Siri, which was expected to incorporate artificial intelligence features, due to engineering problems and software glitches, according to Apple analyst Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. Sources close to the matter revealed that the company is still working to finalize the software.
Siri's new features were originally slated for release in April with iOS 18.4, but issues with consistency in functionality have led to delays. Some of these features may not appear until May, or potentially even later, following the launch of iOS 18.5—assuming Apple can resolve the issues in time. It's also possible that some of the new features will be included in iOS 18.4 but turned off by default, to be activated only in a later update.

Among the anticipated updates is Apple Intelligence, which promises to enhance Siri's capabilities, including performing tasks like booking flights and making restaurant reservations based on user requests. However, some of these functionalities, such as Siri’s personal assistant abilities, may be postponed. Apple had initially promised significant AI-driven features for Siri, but their launch has been delayed by several months.
In the meantime, Apple users may have to wait longer for a version of Siri similar to ChatGPT, known as "Siri LLM," with a potential release not expected until spring 2026, according to Gurman.

Despite the delays, Siri has made notable progress in AI functionality since the introduction of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1. For example, Siri now provides improved handling of Apple-specific knowledge and user error in language. If current AI features are not sufficient, Apple has also allowed users to rely on ChatGPT’s AI for certain functions.

It remains unclear whether OpenAI's AI engine will continue powering certain features on the iPhone once Apple resolves its issues. While this collaboration could save on development costs, Apple typically avoids relying on external technology providers, following its past struggles with Intel. Meanwhile, iPhone enthusiasts who bought the latest model for its anticipated AI features may have to wait a bit longer.
