Anat Ashkenazi, an Israeli-American who worked as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Eli Lilly pharmaceutical company, has been appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer of Alphabet, Google's parent company. She will officially assume her new position on July 31.
The announcement of Ashkenazi's appointment comes almost a year after Ruth Porat, Alphabet's longtime CFO, announced that she would move to serve as the company's president and VP of investments.
Ashkenazi, 51, worked at Eli Lilly for more than 20 years, and in 2021 was appointed to the position of CFO. Before joining the company, she worked at Bank Hapoalim in Israel. Ashkenazi has a bachelor's degree in accounting and economics from the Hebrew University and a master's degree in business administration from Tel Aviv University.
"We are pleased to have found a strong CFO with proven experience in strategically focusing on long-term investments to fuel innovation and growth," said Alphabet CEO Sunder Pichai. ""The AI era is giving us an incredible opportunity to innovate at scale across our core products. I look forward to working with Anat as we invest responsibly to support our next wave of growth."
During her position as CFO of Eli Lilly, the company enjoyed an increase in sales thanks to the development of a drug for weight loss and diabetes; for 2023, the company reported revenues of $34 billion.
"On behalf of the board, the management and the employees, I want to thank Anat for 23 years of exceptional service to the company," said Eli Lilly CEO David Ricks. "During her last three years at the company as CFO, we experienced significant growth and laid the foundations that will help us reach more patients with our medicines. I would like to personally thank Anat for the partnership, friendship and leadership of our financial organization and wish her success in her new position."
