Say hello to Auto-GPT, the artificial intelligence-based tool that automates tasks for you at the press of a button. The new service allows a user to define a task, after which the tool will generate the commands needed to accomplish it.

To see how the new tool works, we asked it to create a constitution for Israel based on the Declaration of Independence.
Then, Auto-GPT began by reading the existing Declaration of Independence, searched through constitutions of other countries that could serve as a basis for the document, and analyzed each section to fit the requirements set for it.
In fact, it also added its own additional tasks it needed to perform in order to provide the best result to what it needed to complete. The task was a little too ambitious, but for simpler tasks such as checking software or creating an advertisement, its capabilities stand at a high level.
Artificial intelligence interfaces based on GPT-4 or other models have so far required manual tuning of results. If you requested something from ChatGPT, you would need to guide it to the desired results by adding commands and seeing what worked through trial and error.
With Auto-GPT however, you can simply define the task and go about your business, and the result will be ready when you return, even if it requires several sub-tasks to complete. This sounds great, but it’s important to know that the tool’s current build is only done as a proof of concept.
One of the main problems of using the tool for non-paying users of OpenAI, is that the task can only be run for a predefined amount of time. In addition, Auto-GPT and similar services, such as BabyAGI, have a problem.
We already know that GPT-based models are fantastic liars. If they don't have a good answer to give, they’ll invent one. In the case of Auto-GPT, the result can be a disaster because it still can't identify whether the answer it received from GPT-4 is reliable or not.
Even if one of the answers it received is incorrect, it will continue to use it as a basis for the next task. In other words, the result will be erroneous by nature.
Still, the tool is an impressive achievement and provides a glimpse into what the future of artificial intelligence holds. The tool was developed by a company called Significant Gravis, which managed to allow AI to operate independently.
This concept of general artificial intelligence (AGI) is the holy grail of AI development: an artificial intelligence that will do the work on its own and operate as a completely autonomous system. Though still is still a far cry from developing a fully functional android, AGI could be the way in which it’ll be done in the future.
Auto-GPT can be run on a personal computer and isn’t reliant on the web, which is a significant advantage. The tool isn’t the most advanced service in the world, but it’s capable of interfacing with applications, internet services, and those that run locally on the computer.
If you ask it to create a business growth plan, it will likely be able to provide you with a basis for a marketing plan and a strategy for building a website and a mobile application for it.
As mentioned, Auto-GPT needs to be run locally, but it can also be run as an online service available on the web. However, you’ll have to make do with relatively short usage times for each task you request.
If you want to save your tasks, you will need to register an account online. And if you want to remove the time limit, you’ll need to register for a paid account with OpenAI, as it currently only interfaces with the company's model.
