Over the weekend, the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi became the center of global defense innovation as it hosted the "Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024," which concluded on Sunday. The event featured weapons and technologies from countries such as Israel, Iran and Russia, whose displays stood side by side.
Israel was represented by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, while Iran’s Ministry of Defense showcased its capabilities. The exhibition prominently displayed the flags of all participating nations, with those of Iran and Israel notably flying next to each other.
Sources revealed that the Israeli and Iranian pavilions were positioned adjacent to one another, resulting in frequent, if unintended, encounters between representatives from both nations.
Iran’s deputy foreign minister attended the event, as did Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh who visited the IAI pavilion and showed great interest in Israeli drone technology.
Meanwhile, Iran unveiled its BM-300 surface-to-surface missile, designed for precision strikes. Reports detailed the system’s features: "The BM-300 ballistic missile system is mounted on a 6x6 truck chassis, offering both mobility and operational efficiency. The vehicle includes a crew cabin at the front and a small shelter directly behind it, equipped with fire-control systems. A launch ramp at the rear carries and fires a single BM-300 missile, enhancing mobility and enabling rapid deployment in diverse terrains, making it a versatile battlefield asset."
Israeli Ambassador to Vietnam Yaron Mayer also attended the event and shared his sentiments on social media, posting: "Wishing the 2024 Vietnam Defense Exhibition a success! Congratulations on the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army! Israel is pleased to witness Vietnam's strong defense development and is ready to cooperate with Vietnam for peace and security in the region and the world."
