The October 7 massacre significantly heightened personal security concerns in Israel, leading to a dramatic increase in smart doorbell sales, according to electronics retailers over the past eight months.
Large Israeli electronics retailer Mahsanei Hashmal reports a steep rise in demand for these devices. Priced between NIS 300-700 ($80-$190), smart doorbells have become bestsellers alongside digital peepholes. These devices allow users to receive alerts on their mobile phones about visitors and even communicate with them remotely.
Chinese online retail service AliExpress has long offered these kits at a lower price. In Israel, smart doorbell kits sell for NIS 400-600 ($110-$160), compared to NIS 250-300 ($70-$80) on AliExpress with a coupon. However, the price gap between Israel and China is narrowing due to increasing local demand.
Liron Katz, VP of Business and Digital Development at Mahsanei Hashmal, highlighted the unprecedented growth. "It's growing at an illogical rate. The items reach the stores and just disappear. It's crazy. From an average of 35 units per month sold in 2023 and a maximum of 70 units to 1,500 units per month sold in 2024."
