The electric Hummer, a popular yet pricey vehicle in Israel's private import market, is encountering significant battery issues, leading to the replacement of batteries in over 20% of these vehicles on Israeli roads. Some replacements were part of a recall, while others were due to malfunctions. Several vehicles are currently out of service, awaiting new batteries from General Motors.
Data revealed by Calcalist shows that the electric Hummer has become a hit in the personal import market over the past year. The vehicles, not officially imported by General Motors' Israeli representative UMI, were brought into the country through small-scale imports, with prices ranging from 600,000 shekels to over 1 million shekels. However, the Israeli summer has proven challenging for the Hummer's massive battery, which weighs 1,270 kilograms and has a capacity of over 200 kWh.
UMI, legally responsible for servicing all GM vehicles in Israel, confirmed that they have replaced batteries in several electric Hummers and are waiting for additional batteries to arrive. "We provide full service, including warranty repairs, for all GM-branded vehicles imported to Israel, including the electric Hummer," UMI said. Currently, eight vehicles are awaiting battery replacements, while others require new batteries but remain operable.
