Finnish food delivery company Wolt announced Monday that the general manager of the company's Israel branch, Lior Eshkol will be promoted to the global management team. Eshkol will oversee strategic markets worldwide, including Israel.
Eshkol, 37, has led Wolt's operations in Israel since 2020, during which time, the company expanded its footprint and created a new consumer culture in food and retail. Under her leadership, Wolt's operations have grown immensely, extending across Israel, including Eilat.
A former intelligence officer, Eshkol holds an MBA from Harvard University. She previously served as a brand manager at Procter & Gamble and as a senior product manager at Amazon. She succeeded Imri Galai, who established Wolt's operations in Israel in 2018 and currently serves as Vice President of Wolt Global.
When Eshkol took over, Wolt operated mainly in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area and focused on restaurants. She and her team expanded Wolt's services beyond Tel Aviv to major cities such as Jerusalem, Haifa, Be'er Sheva, and eventually throughout the country.
According to the company, Wolt serves 8,000 businesses with 20,000 couriers. Today, one in three orders on Wolt is for retail products such as books, toys, household items, and flowers, rather than food. The company’s headquarters and customer service now employ around 1,300 people across four offices in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, and Eilat.
Founded in 2014 in Helsinki, Finland, Wolt has since expanded to 28 countries. In June 2022, it was acquired by DoorDash, the leading American delivery company traded on NASDAQ. Wolt now serves as the international arm of the merged company.
