Israeli company ForSea stole the show at the big innovation event in Asia when it won the startup competition thanks to its development of cultured eels.
Among the hundreds of companies participating last week in the SusHi-Tech innovation exhibition in Tokyo, the Israeli delegation, organized by the commercial attaches of the Economy Ministry of Japan in collaboration with SivanS Group, stood out.
Eleven Israeli companies and ForSea, which develops cultured eel using innovative technology that allows for the economical cultivation of seafood, garnered significant attention.
The eel market in Japan rolls over $4.5 billion annually and is steadily growing. The high demand naturally leads to a decline in the natural eel population, even to the point of severe endangerment.
Daniel Kolbar, Israel’s Minister for Economic Affairs in Japan, said: "Both Israel and Japan are known for their innovation and curiosity in various fields, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to challenge Japan with a novel product that is an integral part of Japanese culinary culture."
