Two years after the split, and some eight months after the court declared them officially divorced, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on Tuesday signed the settlement documents to seal the deal.
Despite plans to appear in court next month to begin discussions on matters that are still disputed, the two managed to reach an agreement with the help of their private lawyers.
The settlement includes family and financial matters, including the division of property and common wealth, and custody over the couple's four kids - daughter North, son Saint, daughter Chicago, and son Psalm.
The two decided to share the custody of the children, but they will be living with Kim for the most part. Furthermore, Kanye will pay Kim $200,000 a month in child support, which he must transfer to her bank account on the first of every month. He will also be responsible for 50% of the children's education and security costs.
In order to avoid future conflicts regarding their children, Kim and Kanye both agreed to hire a mediator if need be.
The agreement also stipulated that Kanye would transfer his house, located right next to her home, to Kim's ownership. He bought this house for $4.5 million shortly after their breakup, in hopes to stay close to her and their kids.
Nonetheless, West is holding onto his primary $60 million home, two farms in Wyoming, and other properties in Calabasas and Belgium, as well as his childhood home in Chicago.
West, as he has proven in the past, is a very stubborn and outspoken person, what was expressed in his divorce process as well.
Although the documents were signed just now, the couple has been officially divorced since last March when the court ruled so. This decision left certain legal matter undecided, but established that the two were separated.
Kanye repeatedly stated he would not give up on the marriage, and apparently tried to slow down the divorce process as much as possible. He repeatedly appealed the prenuptial agreement that the two signed prior to their marriage, and refused her requests to come to terms on their common wealth and children.
This divorce is one among many other scandals bringing Kanye's name to the front pages worldwide. The latest is his viral antisemitic rants on social media, including a tweet in which he threatened to go “death con 3” on Jewish people.
Kim herself even spoke up against his remarks, tweeting that she stands with the Jewish community and calls on "terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end."
