Idan Amedi, who was seriously wounded in the Gaza war more than a year ago and returned to the stage about a month ago, announced Wednesday on his Instagram account that he has decided to forgo Independence Day performances this year.
“After some soul-searching, I realized it’s still too soon for me to return and perform amid the sharp emotional transition between these days,” the singer wrote, referring to the shift from Memorial Day to Independence Day. He noted that he has been receiving many messages and questions about whether he would be performing on the country’s birthday.
Amedi served in the reserves from the beginning of the war, in a combat engineering reconnaissance unit. In January 2023, he was seriously injured during fighting in Gaza and was evacuated to a hospital for treatment.

After being discharged, Amedi revealed that his eyesight and hearing were saved thanks to his friend, Akiva Yasinsky, who was killed in the same incident.
Since then, Amedi has returned to perform in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, where tens of thousands of tickets were sold in a remarkably short time.
