Despite being nominated six times, The Donmar Warehouse musical adapted from the Israeli film "The Band's Visit" did not win any titles at Sunday night's 2023 Olivier Awards event in London's Royal Albert Hall.

Nevertheless, before the announcement of the winners, Israeli singer and star of the musical Miri Mesika staged a breathtaking performance of the song "Omar Sharif" from "The Band's Visit."
Mesika and Alon Aboutboul - the Israeli musical's stars - were nominated for Best Actor in A Musical and Best Actress in A Musical. Other categories in which the play was nominated were Best Original Score or New Orchestrations, Mastercard Best New Musical, and Best Actor In A Supporting Role in A Musical.
Although "The Band's Visit" did not bring home a trophy, the impressive number of nominations was indeed an admirable accomplishment that left a mark on the prestigious international recognition of excellence.
Chaim Topol, the iconic Israeli actor that passed away in early March, received a shoutout in the ceremony's presentation that paid tribute to prominent industry figures from around the world who passed away throughout the past year.

Among the noteworthy victors of the ceremony are rising actor Paul Mescal who won the Best Actor award for his performance in " Streetcar Named Desire," and Jodie Comer who won the Best Actress award for her role in "Prima Facie." The one-woman play starring Jodie also won the Best New Play award, and "Standing at the Sky’s Edge" won the Best New Musical award.
