The band has its origins as a five-piece band called Groundswell. It was formed in Ontario in 1992 and played locally until it disbanded in 1995. In 1997, several members of the original lineup regrouped under the name Three Days Grace.
The band's self-titled debut album was released in 2003 to overall positive reviews, yet — at the time — limited accolades.
The band’s big breakthrough came with its second album One-X, which was released in 2006 and debuted at No. 2 on the Canadian Albums Chart. The album also entered the Billboard 200 albums chart at No. 5 with first-week sales of more than 78,000 copies. It has gone on to sell over 3 million copies in the United States and Canada alone.
The band's multi-platinum studio effort produced hits such as Pain, Riot, Never Too Late and mid-2000s hard rock anthem Animal I Have Become.

Three Days Grace's next studio release Life Starts Now saw light in 2009 and like its predecessor, picked up several platinum certifications, featuring the hit singles Break and The Good Life.
Since then, the band has gone on to release six albums in total, with its seventh studio effort, Explosions, expected to hit the shelves this coming May.
The band released the first single off its new album, titled So Called Life, last November. The song reached the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart at number one, topping the chart for four consecutive weeks.
