Israel's representative to the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest Eden Golan landed on Tuesday in Malmo, Sweden to take the stage in the second semi-final. The Eurovision production company did not take any chances and notified the Israeli delegation of the pro-Palestinian protests.
The security detail for the Israeli delegation will include Eurovision production personnel, local security forces, and the Shin Bet which made security arrangements in advance. As Malmo is considered one of the world's most antisemitic cities, the Israeli security detail holds a daily security assessment to ensure the delegation's safety.
Anti-Israel protests have been on the rise since October 7 following the Hamas terror attack which triggered the current war in Gaza. The Israeli delegation is prepared for these protests due to the European Broadcasting Union update regarding the major events planned in Malmo during the Eurovision.
Eden Golan took the stage in Sweden for the first time for a "successful" rehearsal on Tuesday, according to officials. In her performance, Golan is accompanied by five dancers surrounded by orange lighting which is meant to symbolize hope.
