Tahini pizza is one of my favorites, and this time I’ve made it in a family-sized version, reminiscent of store-bought pizzas kids love. My tahini pizza is light, satisfying and gluten-free (it contains no flour at all). The combination of tahini and eggs, along with baking powder, results in a sturdy crust.
In just 30 minutes, including baking, the aroma will fill your home, and the pizza will be on your table. Get ready to fall in love with a recipe that’s sure to become a kitchen staple.
Tips:
- Raw tahini can be swapped with almond butter.
- You can skip making the sauce and use store-bought pizza sauce.
- Feel free to top the pizza with yellow cheese, mozzarella, parmesan or a blend of them.
- Sprinkling sesame seeds under the crust adds crispiness and enhances the flavor.
Ingredients (serves 6, oven tray size)
For the crust:
- 5 eggs (size M or L)
- 1/2 cup raw tahini or almond butter
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1.5 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Optional: 3-4 tbsp sesame seeds
For greasing the tray: a bit of olive oil
For the tomato sauce:
- 7 ounces of tomato paste
- 1/4 cup milk (or plant-based milk) or water
- 1 clove garlic, crushed (or 1/2 tsp garlic powder)
- Generous pinch of salt
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano (optional but recommended)
For topping:
- 10-14 ounces grated cheese (about 2.5-3.5 cups)
- Additional toppings to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350℉ (180°C) (preferably on turbo mode) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- For the crust: combine all the crust ingredients in a bowl and mix well until smooth and thin.
- Grease the baking tray with olive oil and, if desired, sprinkle 1.5 tbsp sesame seeds on the bottom.
- Pour the batter into the tray and spread it evenly using a spatula. Sprinkle sesame seeds along the edges where the pizza crust will form.
- Bake for 5-7 minutes until the crust is dry and firm, then remove from the oven.
- Meanwhile, prepare the sauce by mixing all the ingredients in a bowl.
- Spread the sauce over the baked crust and top with grated cheese. Add any additional toppings now.
- Place the pizza back in the oven on the top rack for 3-5 minutes, until the cheese melts and the crust darkens slightly.
- Remove from the oven, let it cool briefly, slice, and enjoy your perfect pizza. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days (reheat in a toaster between two sheets of parchment paper).
