Suspicions about their relationship spread in the tabloids last weekend, when Grande was spotted at Wimbledon without her wedding ring, which according to reports she had not worn for a while. Now sources close to the couple confirm to the various entertainment sites that the suspicions indeed are based in fact.
According to insiders, the two separated after a long period in which they faced relationship problems that they could not resolve. "They tried, but it didn't work," an insider told TMZ. Page Six reports: "It was a mutual decision. They have had issues for a long time, but they are determined to remain close friends and have maintained a good relationship throughout this time."
One of the reasons why the two managed to hide the separation from the public for so long is that Grande was busy filming the movie "Wicked," which kept her from their shared home since December. In April, Gomez visited the star on set in order to work on the relationship in order to repair it - but without success, according to the People website. Insiders say that the two talk on the phone regularly –but it is clear to both of them that the marriage is over.
Grande and Gomez were spotted together for the first time at the beginning of 2020, on a hot date in a restaurant during which they couldn't really take their hands and lips off each other – and were photographed by the paparazzi cameras.
"Ariana sees something different in Dalton, something she's never seen in previous partners," a knowledgeable source told Us Weekly magazine and added: "He's exactly the guy she's been looking for, he protects her and does small things that mean something to her." Two months later, they starred together in the music video for Grande's joint hit with Justin Bieber, "Stuck With U."
They got engaged at the end of 2020 and were married in May 2021 at the singer's house, in a small ceremony that included only 20 guests. Although the breakup happened a long time ago, in May Grande marked their wedding anniversary by posting on Instagram a photo from their wedding day. At the same time, the last time she published a recent photo of herself and Gomez was in November, shortly before she left for the filming of the movie.
This was the first marriage for Grande, who before that was also engaged to comedian Pete Davidson, from whom she separated in 2018.
So far, neither side has publicly discussed their alleged breakup.
