The annual competition of the Italian pizza magazine "Top 50 Pizza" took place in Tokyo, Japan this week, ranking pizzerias from Italy and around the world. In the prestigious list of Asian pizzerias, a kosher Israeli pizzeria located in Jerusalem called "La Piedra" (The Stone) won 38th place out of 50.

The win marks the first time an Israeli kosher pizzeria has made it onto the list in the competition, which over the years gained the nickname "The Michelin of Pizzas."
The magazine's annual pizza ranking is considered to be comprehensive and highly regarded in the industry.
Every year, thousands of anonymous reviewers, chefs and gastronomes embark on journeys around the world to taste and rate the finest pizza restaurants. The ranking takes into account factors such as ambiance, customer service, wine and beverage menu, and of course the pizzas themselves.
Hundreds of pizzaioli and pizza enthusiasts from around the world attended the competition’s event in Tokyo, including Chef Avi Sinclair, the owner of the Jerusalem pizzeria that has been operating for over seven years.
La Piedra makes its pizzas in the Neapolitan fashion, meaning the dough is baked inside of a special stone oven that burns firewood.
The pizzeria that took first place in the Asian category was a Tokyo pizza bar called “The Pizza Bar On 38th,” and the grand winner in Europe was a pizzeria from Barcelona called “Sartoria Panatieri.”
