Olympic medalist in judo Yarden Gerbi and her partner for the past year, Adi Ambar, are engaged. "Officially off the market," Gerbi wrote alongside a photo with her new fiancée, in which they each show off an engagement ring.
The two met through mutual friends and it seems they realized it was time to take the next step after recently moving in together to an apartment in Tel Aviv - where the touching marriage proposal took place. Gerbi was the first to propose, pulling out an engagement ring, and the next day Adi surprised Gerbi with a ring she gave to the medalist.
Gerbi rose to prominence outside of Israel as early as 2008, when she placed 3rd in the Under-20 category in the European Championships. In 2009, she won the Israel Championships and the Belo Horizonte World Cup. In 2012, she won the Tashkent World Cup and the Israel Championships and took second in the 2012 European Judo Championships in Russia.
At the age of 24, in August 2013, Gerbi emerged victorious at the 2013 World Judo Championships in Rio de Janeiro in the -63 kg (139 lb) category. She managed to defeat all five of her opponents outright.
