The fifth season of Fauda is taking shape. With the casting process officially underway, the production has issued a clear directive to casting agents: “Do not propose Jewish actors for roles portraying Arab characters, even if their Arabic is fluent.”
This decision reflects the show’s commitment to authenticity, as the series seeks only Arab actors to play Arab characters. According to sources within the production, most Arab characters in previous seasons were portrayed by Arab actors, with two notable exceptions: Avi Aburomi, a Muslim convert to Judaism, and Lucy Ayoub, whose father is an Arab-Christian, and whose mother is Jewish.
The ongoing casting process is currently focused on several Arab roles, including Maher and Iyad (ages 30–40), Al-Qadi (45–55), Abu Zahar, and Salem, a Bedouin Israeli tracker who served in the IDF and lost his son in the October 7 attacks.
