Four-time Tour de France winner and Team Israel Premier Tech member Chris Froome recently took part in a two-day cycling journey across the Israel National Trail, alongside Israeli former professional cyclist Guy Niv and Israel Premier Tech women's team member Jasmine Kernen. In the clip, Froome experiences Israel’s landscapes, history, and diverse culture on the trail which takes cyclists through the Old City of Jerusalem through the Negev desert and beyond. The film shows Froome and the team cycling through the wonders of Masada, through the city of Jerusalem, and even taking a break to float in the Dead Sea.
Froome was able to enjoy the wonders of the Holy Land in a more relaxed setting thanks to a short break in his demanding race schedule and training.
Froome stated, "The last forty-eight hours for me in Israel have been such an eye-opener. Just how diverse the country is in nature, in culture, it’s really just been such an energizing experience. It’s been incredible for me to just be able to feel like a kid again: mountain biking, floating on the Dead Sea eating watermelon and having a beer, just really switching off."
Israeli cyclist Guy Niv who accompanied him on the journey: "It was simply amazing to see Chris appreciating the beautiful sides of the country. He was calm and relaxed like a true tourist. Just a year ago, we were competing together in the Tour de France, but this time we experienced something completely different."
Froome, a British Kenyan, is one of the most decorated cyclists still competing at professional levels today. He joined the Israeli cycling team Star- Up Nation Israel in 2020 and now competes for Israel Premier Tech, owned by philanthropist Sylvan Adams.
On Froome’s journey, Adams, known for his contributions to Israeli causes and promotion of Israel through sports, stated in the documentary, “Given the recent atmosphere in the country, I believe that now is the perfect time to showcase the captivating beauty of Israel to the world and remind ourselves of the remarkable land that we all cherish and adore.”
On Froome’s eye-opening experience, Adams added, “Chris’s personal voyage of discovery in Israel, when seen by the hundreds of millions of Tour viewers, will surely whet the appetite of new tourists to our country. They will discover, as Chris did, the exotic wonders, adventures, and utter enjoyment that a trip to Israel entails."
